Hāmtunge (The Home-Tongue)

Paul Wood is based in Alnwick, Northumberland. Now a teacher of English, a previous career in trade and industry took him to Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East, experiences that shaped a keen interest in the intersection between landscape, historical memory and language. A Classics graduate with a deep affinity for Anglo-Saxon and Persian poetic traditions, Paul enjoys writing poems that combine historical imagination with a strong sense of place, seeking out the enduring patterns beneath change. An active member of his local poetry writing group, his long poem  Northern Ledger  is a meditation on belonging, exile and return, tracing these concerns through a sequence of interconnected lyrics rooted in his native northern England.
